OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe that maternity care should be family centered, offering personalized care to empower and educate families through this sacred time in their lives. Midwifery care is primary pregnancy, labor/delivery and postpartum/newborn care for low risk, healthy, pregnant people and their families. The majority of pregnant people are good candidates for midwifery care and out-of-hospital birth. The primary commitment is to safety, while also providing holistic and individualized care.

Our midwives practice evidence-based health care. Safety and the health of the clients are combined with empowerment and education in this unique form of personalized health care.

The Midwifery Model of Care practiced by our midwives is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. The Midwifery Model of Care includes:

• Monitoring the physical, psychological and social well-being of the pregnant parent throughout the childbearing cycle

• Providing the pregnant client with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support

• Minimizing technological interventions

• Identifying and referring people who need obstetric intervention

Our midwives are highly trained in the skills necessary to diagnose and respond in the rare event of an emergency, with established relationships with physicians for consultation or transfers to the hospital if necessary.
